ABOUT US

Group Woodside Stables, LLC is the premier hunter/jumper facility in Kingston, WA. Located at the beautiful Maple Ridge Farm, Woodside is just a 20 minute drive from Bainbridge Island or a 35 minute ferry ride from North Seattle.

Woodside is a fun, friendly family-run business for the hunter, jumper, and equitation enthusiast. Woodside is owned by trainer Cindy Daniels and her daughters Sara Smith and Lisa Petersen, both professional riders. With years of experience Cindy, Sara, and Lisa have developed a program to bring out the best in the horses entrusted in their care and assist riders in achieving their goals.

The training program at Woodside is dedicated to creating a fun, safe, and effective environment in which to develop horsemanship and riding skills. Cindy, Sara, and Lisa teach in a disciplined yet light-hearted and positive manner to get the most out of each rider. Emphasis is on the importance of basics, strong flatwork, and correct position. Through this systematic approach to teaching, riders at Woodside are well-educated on the tools they need to be safe, successful, and confident at every level of riding.

Woodside believes that every horse learns at their own rate and needs and individualized training program to maximize their potential. Each horse's training program is tailored to its tempermant in order to build confidence and allow them to perform to the best of their ability. Woodside horses are kept healthy and happy to assure a successful and lasting career as a performance horse.

CindyCindy Daniels - Trainer
Cindy has loved working with horses since she was young. As a child, she begged her parents for a horse. They finally relented, purchasing a mare called Topsy for $75.00. Cindy has been training horses and riders for over 30 years, beginning her professional career with Johnny and Dianne Johnson of Sterling Stables. She loves to watch horses and riders develop together, whether they are serious horse show competitors or riding for fun. In her spare time Cindy enjoys going on challenging hikes spending time every week to explore the Olympic Peninsula.

Lisa PetersenLisa Petersen - Professional
Lisa has been Woodside's professional rider and trainer for over ten years. A recent winner of the USHJA State and National Professional Affiliate Award, Lisa has been riding horses since she was five years old. As a junior, Lisa excelled in the hunter and equitation divisions, always getting the catch ride on many ponies and horses. Lisa's kind and compassionate yet challenging style of teaching and riding brings out the best in her horses and riders. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys working on her recently purchased home and running with her dog, Max.

Sara SmithSara Smith - Professional

Sara has been involved with Woodside since its inception, and joined Lisa and Cindy full time in March of 2007. Previously riding for other top hunter/jumper barns in the Pacific Northwest, Sara brings over 10 years of diverse professional experience to the Woodside team. Sara still catch rides for other barns, and can often be seen at the shows carrying her saddle and jumping from horse to horse. Sara is beginning her third term as a board member for the Washington State Hunter Jumper Association (WSHJA), and in 2011 became a United States Hunter and Jumper Association (USHJA) level 1 certified trainer through the Trainer Certification Program. Sara enjoys working with her students closely and helping them to achieve their riding goals at all levels, beginner to advanced.  She loves attending shows and coaching her students and horses. Sara has recently had some amazing experiences with students at the USEF medal finals in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta, USET medal finals in Los Angeles, and all points in between!

Ellen AndersonEllen Anderson - Maple Ridge Farm Owner & Manager

Ellen is the owner of Maple Ridge Farm as well as the stable manager. A previous veterinary assistant at Big Valley Equine, Ellen brings an extensive knowledge of equine veterinary care to her daily work at the farm. Along with growing up at Sterling Stables where the Johnsons' instilled the highest standards of horsemanship and facility management, Ellen worked at one of the largest breeding facilities on the West Coast, Meadow Wood Farm in Monroe before opening Maple Ridge. All of these things help Maple Ridge be a safe and healthy atmosphere for both horse and rider. Ellen, as well as son Tim and husband Bill, live on site.
